A New Timber Look to Revitalise Your Home

Some of our homeowners are looking to improve the value of their homes. That’s easy to do with a timber frame extension whether you’re in Portsmouth, Southampton or the surrounding areas. A timber frame extension is perfect for customers looking for an economical or fast build.

One of the incentives of a timber frame extension is that it can be made watertight in a matter of days rather than weeks. Additionally, the build isn’t hampered by the weather, meaning construction can continue throughout the winter months.

Lastly, because it can be made so quickly, timber frame extensions are often the most cost effective solution. When you contact our team, we can talk to you about a quote and survey your home to get the most accurate measurements of our build.

When you’re looking to increase the value of your home, integrating your timber frame extension into the existing architecture is important. Of course, with timber frame extensions, homeowners don’t have to worry about prolonged expenses.

Some planning commissions can have stringent rules regarding the house’s exterior materials. Although we can use stone, brickwork, metal or fibre cement cladding, we can also offer timber cladding. Just talk to us about the materials that you prefer in your extension.

FAQ's

We try to make sure that our customers know the ins and outs of timber frame extensions before they decide to build. That’s why we show our commonly asked questions. But if you have more queries, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

  • What is timber cladding?

Timber cladding refers to the exterior building materials that are made of wood. There are many types of timber cladding, but the most popular materials in Britain are larch, cedar and oak. We know how popular timber cladding has become in the past few years, which is why we mention it here.

But you should know that we also provide stone, brickwork, and other external materials for your timber frame extension. If you want to know more about timber cladding, talk with our Portsmouth team.

  • Will I have to apply for planning permission?

In most instances, no. The only times that you would need to apply for planning permission would be:

      • If the extension goes beyond 6 metres of the ‘original house’.
      • If a side extension is over half of the width of the ‘original house’.
      • If the extension is in the front of the house.
      • Or if the extension is over 3 metres tall within 2 metres of the property border; or over 4 metres tall otherwise.
  • What if I live in a conservation area?

If you live in a Conservation Area or plan to go to a lender for financing options, you may have to check what external finishes they deem acceptable. Eco Extensions will make sure to follow all local authority guidelines. We’ll worry about the details so that you don’t have to.

  • Do you offer certificates?

As a NIC and Trustmark approved contractor, we can offer you building certificates for resale, like an EIC, EICR, or FENSA certificate.

  • Do you do other types of extensions?
